Did ya’ll know that March is national crafting month? Yeah, I know, best month EVER! Plus it helps that at least for us winter appears to be going out and spring marching right in! To celebrate this being craftorama month Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft store asked several of us bloggers to work up something fun based on their awesome Spring Inspiration website, found HERE. Jo-Ann offered to compensate my project; however the reviews and opinions and ideas in this project are my own. To help crafters out in creating their own fun project they are offering a “$5 off when you spend $25” coupon which you can find HERE. And come on, who EVER gets out of Joann’s with out spending $25? It’s like how costco is my $100 dollars store. I just can’t seem to do it ha! Since I have always been a sucker for all things nautical, and stripes being EVERY where as usual here in Paris I decided to sew the girls and myself some super simple high waisted skirts. Of course they had to be navy and this time I wanted a more structured look so I used Jo-Ann’s Tafetta which can be found in several colors in their special occasions section.
This skirt is so wonderfully simple to make. Just two rectangles of fabric and a zipper! I made all three of our skirts from 2 meters of fabric.
The instructions below use my personal measurments. Be sure to measure yourself or your little chica for the best fit. The process is exactly the same for littles just much smaller measurements ha!
So easy right? If you are a bit scared to do it with out a pattern this is very similar to my Taking Notes Pattern which can be found HERE.
The main difference is that I have tailored the Taking Notes Waistband so it doesn’t gape like a straight up rectangle waistband does and it has fun ties around the waist.
I have really wanted to make a floor length one but I just haven’t had the occasion yet! If you decide to make yours out of Tafetta be aware that you will probably need a slip or create a lining layer for the adult version. Also it wrinkles like the dickens. I made sure to sit nicely while wearing it but after a few hours the girls were completely wrinkled. They both loved them though and absolutely adored all of us matching so that is a huge win! Thank you Jo-Ann Crafts for making sure I celebrate craft month! Now go print your coupon and get your craft on!
